Blog Assignment #4

Art: 21 PLACE

Do we define a place? Or does that place define us? I believe that it is a little bit of both aspects. Everyone looks at places as something different. The zoo could be full of wonderdorous animals to some people and to others horrible and smelly. Places can be intimate, special, secrets, energizing, and calm.

Each of the artists that we saw were interested in different types of spaces. Richard was inspired by ships of large masses which he portrayed in his huge structures. Sally Mann was insprired by anything really, but she loved the beauitful outdoors. Margret and Bobbie were inspired by everyday art. Pepon Osorio was inspired by things in his life, such as the barber shop.

I have always realized that art expresses a place that someone wants to visit, or has visited, or loves, or hate. Places are so different and all have different appealing aspects to them. It depends on who the person is and what they like to look at and involve themselves with.

I felt most connected to Sally Mann because as a child I loved to run free in the outdoors. I have a river in my backyard and it has always been apart of me and a place for me to visit when needing to have fun or relax and think. I really enjoyed how she was very simple about her pieces as well.

All the aritists except Sally Mann would have some troubles transporting there art work pieces. I thought they were all interesting and all used different ways to express there feelings.

When I was young I loved trees, so naturally I had a tree fort. Me and my neighbor would spend hours in it and discuss all the things on our imaginations. Across from my house we have a lot of land and that is where the tree fort was at. A few acres down there was a burnt down house and that is the place we would never venture too, expect if we wanted to explore with our older siblings. Five places would be 1. Tree fort (Life) 2. River (Playful) 3. Pool (Fun) 4. Park (adventurous) 5. Bedroom (dwelling)

My tree fort was large and has berries growing from it. It was not the typical ideal tree to have because it got very messy. We would eat the berries or throw them at the boys who would come visit. The textures were rough and you would have to be careful when being around it. The lighting was different at different times of the day but usually less light since there were surroundings of trees.

Art 21: Stories

Many stories are told through families, the history of them. Or just life events can create some great stories, I know I love when my grandparents tell me about when they were growing up my age during there lifetimes.

Stories are told to educate and help others understand where we come from and what we are all about. Some stories could be lost if they are not interesting and if we do not want to keep them alive and thinking about them.

The artist that use sketchbooks to create there art I think are very developed as artists because they have more obsitcules than a painter. A painter can just paint on a canvas and then hang it up where as the aritsts who are telling a story have to decide how they will show the audience their story.

When I was 10 years old I still played with dolls with my baby sister at that time. I wanted to grow up and saw my older sister becoming a teenager and I wanted to be like her. Although I wanted to grow up I was still a child. I still played in the tree fort and collected worms and create projects for our neighborhood. I remember one day me and my older sister Megan went to sell magazine's for our schools drive. We went up to this house that is further out than most of the houses. Megan and I were taking turns going up to the houses so I went up this time. A boy answered the door and while he did that a huge dog started running after me and I yelled to my sister to get on her bike and the dog stopped after the drive way and we rode away.

Looking back on this I wonder how different things were in the world. We were out a little before dark knocking on doors by ourselves with my parents back a mile away. It is interesting to see how different things are not and that my much younger sister never goes down the road that far without my parents.
